Laser removal of facial and body vessels in Kyiv
Red “spider veins” on the sides of the nose and cheeks, bluish spider veins on the legs and bright red dots on the body don’t go away on their own. Foundation only masks them for a short time.
Laser vessel removal on the Fotona system is performed with an Nd:YAG neodymium laser. Its light is selectively absorbed by haemoglobin inside the vessel. The vessel heats up, “seals” from within and is absorbed within a few weeks, while the surrounding skin stays intact. No needles or incisions.

Which vessels the laser removes
The type, colour and depth of a vessel determine the laser settings, so the plan is made after an examination.
- Facial capillaries – dilated vessels on the sides of the nose, cheeks and chin, couperose.
- Spider veins – telangiectasias shaped like “spiders” with a central point.
- Leg vein network – small red and blue vessels on the thighs and shins.
- Cherry angiomas – bright red dots and “moles” on the body.
- Venous lakes – small bluish lesions on the lips and face.
Laser vessel removal clears existing vessels. If redness is persistent and accompanied by breakouts, the doctor will check for rosacea.
How laser vessel coagulation works
The neodymium laser beam passes through the skin and is absorbed by the blood inside the vessel. The vessel wall heats up and sticks together, and blood flow in it stops.
The body gradually absorbs the closed vessel. Small facial capillaries often disappear right during the treatment; larger vessels fade over 2–6 weeks.
Why a neodymium laser
The 1064 nm wavelength penetrates deeply, so the laser reaches not only superficial capillaries but also deeper blue vessels that other light-based methods cannot handle.
Skin melanin absorbs this light weakly, so the treatment is safe for different skin phototypes. A cooling handpiece protects the skin surface.
Laser vessel removal and other methods
The method is chosen by the size and location of the vessels. The laser removes small facial and body vessels most gently.

How laser vessel removal works
The duration depends on the number of vessels and the area, usually 15–30 minutes.
- 1. Examination
The doctor determines the type and depth of the vessels. For leg veins, they may recommend a phlebologist consultation.
- 2. Preparation
The skin is cleansed and the eyes are protected with goggles. Anaesthesia is usually not needed.
- 3. Laser work
The doctor guides the handpiece along the vessels. You feel a brief prick of heat, like the snap of a rubber band.
- 4. After the treatment
Mild redness and swelling pass within 1–3 days. Sometimes small crusts or bruises appear where the vessel was.
How many sessions are needed
Small facial capillaries often disappear after 1–2 sessions. Leg vein networks and deeper vessels usually need 2–4 sessions.
The interval between sessions is 4–8 weeks so the body can absorb the closed vessels.
Care after vessel removal
For 3–5 days avoid saunas, hot baths, intense workouts and alcohol. Don’t pick at crusts and apply SPF daily.
Removed vessels don’t come back, but new ones may appear over time. For prevention, the doctor will recommend skincare and a schedule of follow-up check-ups.

Frequently asked questions about laser vessel removal
Is laser vessel removal painful?
You feel a brief prick of heat, similar to the snap of a rubber band. The handpiece cools the skin, so most patients have the treatment without anaesthesia.
Do vessels come back after the laser?
A removed vessel does not recover. But the tendency for vessels to dilate remains, so new ones may appear over time. They are removed with the laser in the same way.
When will the vessels disappear after the treatment?
Small facial capillaries often disappear immediately. Larger and deeper vessels fade and are absorbed over 2–6 weeks.
Can leg veins be removed with a laser?
Yes, small vein networks and spider veins. If there are varicose large veins, a phlebologist consultation is needed first, because a laser on the skin surface doesn’t eliminate the cause.
When is the best time for laser vessel removal?
Autumn, winter and spring are best, when the skin is not tanned. After the treatment it is important to protect the area from the sun.
Who is laser vessel removal contraindicated for?
The treatment is not performed during pregnancy, with a fresh tan, oncological diseases, inflammation or infection in the treatment area, blood clotting disorders, or while taking anticoagulants or photosensitising medication.
